Hi r vinyl this is my first post here.
Brand new vinyl records skip.
I ve gotten into records over the past year and a half.
No matter what record i put down on my turntable the record skips.
Demand for new vinyl records outstripping supply is a common theme when the topic of quality control rears its ugly head.
I m going to correctly guess you are using a crosley.
Why are they skipping.
I use a mix of distilled water with a.
While it may occur on old records due to storage paper sleeves or dust in the environment new records may also have dust or dirt.
When in doubt play the record on a friend s turntable or record shop to rule out the vinyl itself.
My other vinyls play just fine without skips.
And while some pressing plants are clearly better than others there is a general feeling that many well.
I tested other records and they don t skip.
I m fairly new to the whole record thing and it s really bugging me that a brand new record skips.
Is there a way to fix this or do i just have a dud record.
Even brand new records i have not touched.
I do this with every new record and i never have any issues with pops unless there is a manufacturing defect or something.
You should clean brand new records before you play them the first time.
I ve been building up a nice collection both of new and old records.
I have checked the needle for any lint or dust but i see none.
Remember the two main culprits the setup and the record and that more often than not it is a turntable or environmental issue when it is a brand new record.
A common reason your records may skip is dust and dirt that gets into the grooves.
So i recently got some records for a victoria all in one player i and very happy with the product and albums except it seems to skip on my micheal jackson thriller album.
I purchased a brand new sublime vinyl and it skips like crazy throughout the entire record.
I could understand if my setup was faulty but it seems to be ok because my other records don t skip.
