Carpet beetles like to live out of sight and feed on the natural fibers in fabrics even living off carpet fibers that are 90 percent synthetic. Inside a carpet considered immaculate to the human eye is home to bugs. Adult carpet beetles can live both indoors and out but females prefer to lay eggs where larval food sources are abundant. Some live inside the nests of birds or other animals and can live in walls or chimneys. Carpet beetles are not bed bugs.

While carpet beetles don t bite or feed on humans their larvae can irritate the skin. Others such as fleas can lay 2 000 eggs.
